U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. has issued proclamations for the month of March that recognize Virgin Islands history, women’s history, nutrition, and social work. National Consumer Protection Week, National Medical Billers Day and National Vietnam War Veterans Day have also been proclaimed within the month of March.
Declaring March VI History month, Gov. Bryan wrote that March will include “the celebration and commemoration of events that have shaped the history and culture of this Territory, and through paying tribute to the heroes and heroines, and other individuals, past and present, who have contributed to enrich and better the lives of Virgin Islanders and others through the ages.”
Recognizing that this year’s national theme for Women’s History Month is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion,” Gov. Bryan wrote that the Territory owes a debt of gratitude to the three Queens of St. Croix: Queen Mary, Queen Agnes, and Queen Mathilda, for the advancement of laborers’ rights after the abolition of slavery. Gov. Bryan proclaimed the month of March 2024, as “National Women’s History Month” within the United States Virgin Islands.
Noting that there is a need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance healthy eating practices and that the theme of National Nutrition Month 2024 is “Beyond the Table,” Gov. Bryan has established the month of March as “National Nutrition Month” in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Social workers help people cope with death and grief and help people and communities recover from natural disasters including hurricanes, drought, and flooding. Gov. Bryan, by naming March Social Work month, recognized that social workers are instrumental throughout our society to meet people where they are and help empower people to reach their goals.
Gov. Bryan has proclaimed the week of March 3 through March 9 as Consumer Protection Week in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The local observance of Consumer Protection Week is aligned with the national commemoration to highlight and empower consumers throughout the country.
As medical billers strive to provide a high level of ethical, lawful, and professional conduct throughout the entire health care industry and continue to influence the billing process in a positive and credible manner, Gov. Bryan has declared March 28 national Medical Billers Day in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In commemoration of March 29, 1973 – the day U.S. combat troops withdrew from VietNam – Gov. Bryan has proclaimed March 29 National Vietnam War Veterans Day in the Territory. The day pays tribute to those who have been laid to rest and is intended to show a generation of Vietnam War veterans the respect and support of a grateful nation and Territory.
